Typing Magic card names one by one is the worst part of digitizing a deck. Deck Builder 3.11.0 adds Fast scan, a camera mode built for stacks: it captures each card the moment it fills the frame, confirms with a haptic tick, and keeps looking up results while you flip to the next card. A binder page goes from minutes of typing to about a minute of flipping.
Start a fast scan session
Open the deck that should receive the cards, tap the + button, and choose Add Magic Card. On the search screen, open the ⋮ menu and tap Fast scan.
The camera opens with a card-shaped framing guide. Fill the guide with the card, and the shutter fires itself; the Capture button is there too if you prefer manual timing, and the torch icon helps in dim rooms.
Read the session strip
Every capture lands in a strip at the bottom of the screen: a thumbnail with a spinner while its text is being recognized, then the card’s art with a certainty percentage once the lookup resolves. If a card does not resolve, its tile shows a warning mark instead of disappearing: the photo is kept in the session, nothing is lost.
Finish and fix the misses
Tap Done and you get the results overview: “N of M cards recognized”, with every failed card showing its captured photo plus two ways out: Re-scan this card pushes that capture back through the pipeline immediately, and Enter manually opens the search with the recognized text pre-filled so you can pick the right printing yourself.
Once you confirm, the recognized cards land in the search screen with a From this scan: N cards filter chip active, so the list stays scoped to your session instead of falling back to the global feed. Add them to your deck in one tap.
Tips for good hit rates
- Fill the frame guide with the card; the overlay’s proportions match a real MTG card.
- Wait for the haptic confirm before flipping to the next card.
- Glossy sleeves: angle the card slightly to move glare off the text lines.
- Cards that failed? They are the reason the photo is kept: re-scan them from the results overview before giving up and entering them manually.
Fast scan works alongside the single-card scanner, which now shares the same overlay and auto-capture. If you want the slower, one-card-at-a-time flow with the correction sheet, it is still in the same menu under Scan card.
